HalfLytely and Bisacodyl Tablets Bowel Prep Kit is indicated for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy. Nausea, cramping, and abdominal fullness occur in up to 50% of patients. Use is contraindicated in patients with ileus, gastrointestinal obstruction, gastric retention, bowel perforation, toxic colitis, toxic megacolon, and/or hypersensitivity to any of the components.

No additional ingredients, eg, flavorings, should be added to the solution. Use with caution in patients with severe ulcerative colitis. Do NOT chew or crush the bisacodyl delayed-release tablets. Patients with impaired gag reflex and those prone to regurgitation or aspiration should be observed during solution administration. If patient experiences severe bloating, distention, or abdominal pain, solution administration should be slowed or stopped until symptoms abate. Perform appropriate studies to rule out suspected gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation before product administration.

Patients should avoid consumption of large quantities of water during or after preparation or colonoscopy, and those with impaired water handling (renal insufficiency or patients taking diuretics) who experience severe vomiting or nausea should be closely observed, including measurement of electrolytes. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients and pregnant women have not been established. Oral medication taken within 1 hour of starting to drink solution may be flushed from the gastrointestinal tract and not absorbed.
